Why Weeping Tile Disconnection Comes Up
Some older homes were built with foundation drains connected to the sanitary sewer. During heavy rain, that can add water to the sewer system and increase basement backup risk. A grant-ready project may involve disconnecting those drains and redirecting water to a sump pit and pump system.
What to Ask Contractors
Ask whether they can identify the existing weeping tile connection, separate disconnection work from sump equipment, explain discharge routing, and provide itemized grant-ready pricing before work starts.
Historic areas such as Old South and Wortley Village may need this conversation earlier than newer subdivisions.
