Basement Flooding Grants for Byron & Oakridge Homeowners

Hilly terrain and reverse-grade driveways push your sump pump to the limit. Here is how the City of London will pay to upgrade your system.

If you own a home in West London neighborhoods like Byron, Oakridge, or Westmount, you already know that managing groundwater during the spring thaw is a constant battle.

Unlike the flat subdivisions in the east end, the unique topography and heavy grading in Byron mean your weeping tiles take on massive amounts of water. For many homeowners here, the sump pump runs non-stop from March until May.

This heavy workload creates two massive risks for your finished basement: Pump burnout and illegal surface discharge. Fortunately, the City of London Basement Flooding Grant Program offers thousands of dollars to help you solve both problems permanently.

The Byron Sump Pump Problem

The City of London has recognized that properties on steep hills or with reverse-grade driveways face specialized drainage issues that require specialized funding.

⚠️ By-Law Warning: Discharging your sump pump water into your laundry sink or basement floor drain to avoid the hill outside is illegal and overloads the sanitary sewer. (Read more about Byron & Oakridge Discharge Rules to stay compliant).

How the City Funds Your Solution

If you cannot safely discharge water onto your lawn because of the grading of your lot, the City of London offers high-value, specialized funding to fix the problem legally.

If approved, the City may cover up to $7,000 to construct a brand new Storm Private Drain Connection (PDC) directly to your property line, plus up to $3,000 to build the pipe connecting your home to it. This completely eliminates your surface water issues.

Don't Skip the Paperwork

Securing this high-level funding requires strict municipal pre-approval. If you hire a plumber to install a new pump or start trenching your yard before the City Engineer signs off on your application, your grant will be denied.
